But, then again . . . . .

The day was spent at the Scottish Ornithology Club in Aberlady on a nature photography workshop run by Laurie Campbell, a notable expert in the field. It was rather a disappointing experience; I had expected discussion about techniques for various forms wildlife as it is a bird sanctuary, and then going out and trying them out. Unfortunately, the site Laurie was planning to take us was waterlogged, so access wasn’t allowed, and there was no Plan B. There are groups booked for the same workshop on Saturday and Sunday, presumably they will benefit from our experience today.

There were a few tips picked up, like how to track badgers – not that it’s something I’m likely to do, and using a festival tent for a garden hide which I might. We also discovered, but couldn't approach, the delights of the lake with its heronry in the Gosford estate and the where-a-bouts of the midget X-Craft submarine wrecks that were used here for training during the Second World War. I hope to arrange visits to blip both attractions sometime in the not too distant future.

The only successful photograph acheived was this detail of the wall of the centre. I'm actually quite pleased with it, but it didn't justify the excursion.
