Teenage jay

I've had two young jays venturing into my garden this morning. I suspect they've been told about the peanuts by their parents.

Both of these kids are learning to fly and pick up peanuts. When they first arrived there was a fat pigeon blocking the entrance to the little bird table. They didn't know what to do. They sat in the tree behind and looked at each other.

The pigeon flew off after a while and then the young jays took it in turns to fly up to the table and then return to the tree.

In choosing the photo, I wanted to share the teenager's expression. And as you can see, it has been pouring with rain again.

He (or she) is fluffier in the larger version.
