View through the Window

This is the view through the window I had this morning 38,000 feet up somewhere between the Caspian Sea and the Black Sea in mid Europe - sun glinting off the snow-capped mountains; it was minus 60 outside (so the plane info told us and we were travelling at over 500 mph!

The flight was from Abu Dhabi to London in an Airbus 380 - a huge plane and very new.  We flew out on one of these and were fortunate to be upgraded to Business class (I do enjoy a glass of champagne on boarding) but this trip we were 'at the back'.

The A380 is marvellous though- adequate legroom even in Economy class and the entertainment screen is much larger than we are used to with a socket for recharging phone or laptop and even wifi available (although that does involve using roaming charges so I didn't use it).

We arrived at Heathrow airport early and had to circle round while Air traffic control slotted us in for landing. I can't say to was good to be back to rain and cold but it is good to be home.  The dog was ecstatic to see us, but the cat treated us with his usual disdain.  Cases are unpacked and even some washing done and it will probably be an 'early night' as, although the time difference is only two hours between UK and SA, it has been a tiring couple of days covering thousands of miles. So worth it!

Thank to everyone who has taken time to read and comment on my journal.  I have struggled just to get blips done with intermittent or non-existent wifi but I hope now to get back to commenting and seeing what everyone else has been up to.
