Rothschild Cottages

These cottages are a remnant of the Rothschild heritage. Quite a few years ago, one of the Rothschild family lived at nearby Tring Park . He wasn't a good business man but followed his interests in natural history, travelling widely and collecting many specimens - building a special place near his stately home for his collection. Today, this is now Tring Natural History museum, an offshoot of the main London museum. There is a photo of the cottages (not recent) with a cart being pulled by a team of zebra but what the photographer doesn't include in the picture is the pony at the front of the team! Zebra could not be trained so the pony was there to keep them going in the right direction. Eccentricity at its best!

Tring Park was one of the properties sold off to pay some debts and is now the Arts Educational School, a highly prestigious boarding establishment for youngsters wanting to be trained in music, drama or dance.
