Hunting for Pelicans

We braved the terrible weather today and went to the RSPB reserve at Minsmere. The Little Misses and Mr K were decked from head to foot in waterproof coats, trousers and wellies so were well protected from the elements. I was less well protected in my pac-a-mac and jeans but there was only one torrential downpour and I survived!
The Little Misses got a little backpack which had binoculars and a bird spotting guide which they loved. Miss E's binoculars hardly left her face for about half an hour. I love it when she so obviously enjoys something because she often doesn't seem to enjoy the moment, preferring to look forward to something else or back on something. So when she's happy and enjoying herself completely I'm happy!!
Miss L is much more straightfoward and pretty much happy all the time - unless she's hungry or tired and then she turns into a whining, devil child!
Twitchers are a funny lot aren't they? They carry telescopes the size of cannons, cameras which make mine look like a disposable and sit in hides in silence for hours on end. They were thrilled when the Little Misses turned up in one of the hides and started identifying birds at the tops of their voices: "Black head, yellow nose, white body, grey tail and red legs" A Black-headed gull, woohoo!!!
And Miss E saw a pelican. We missed it!
