uShaka Beach, Durban

The boys wanted to go surfing so after breakfast their cousin Bianca joined us and we went to uShaka Beach which is the southern most Durban beach. This is the view back towards Durban with the skyline of the beachfront hotels and apartments, and on the right you can see the Moses Mabhida stadium. The water was calm with very few swells so they did not have much success surfing, although they had fun trying. It was very hot again, 30C and extremely windy. One would think the wind would cause big waves but it was an onshore wind. Gavin and I went for a walk on the promenade but we gave up as it was so hot and terribly windy.

We then fetched my mum and went back to the B&B to fetch the other granny and we all had a light lunch at a cafe in the village. We had salads but the boys had their first 'bunny chow'. Traditionally this is made from a whole loaf of bread (before the days of sliced bread) that is cut in half, the soft bread is scooped out and curry is filled in its place, and the scooped out bread is then used as a plug on top of the curry. It was a standard late night snack when we were university students, often bought from a dodgy cafe and sometimes you paid the consequences the next day! Today's version was a rather posh one, served in a home made round loaf of ciabatta bread, with a delicious butter chicken curry served in the middle of the loaf.

Only one full day left, we fly back home on Saturday :(
