On arriving

On Arriving in Spain

A day of journeying, travelling
As a nomad with a longing for rest.
Driving, flying, blue skies and head winds.
A late arrival into Alicante but
Oh Lord,
What wonderful light!  Always the light...
Delays of a kind as luggage limps along the conveyors.
Waiting for endless forms and formalities
All for a little Fiat 500.
"Squashy Steering,"
The Official Verdict.
More driving of kilometres to kill
Instead of miles to meander.
Mountains to traverse and sunset
mellifluous with wonder.
Eventually the arrival .

There perfumed air and oranges rolling along the pathways.
The scent insinuates itself deliciously.
The lungs are filled with sweetness and warmth
as the rest beckons and calls
For a few days at least.
A welcome.
A Spanish Arrival.
