Bird on a Branch

It was cool and misty this morning at Spring Lake which allowed me to get this distant silhouette and publish it without changing anything. A Lesser Heron stood close to the shore, less than three feet away rom us as we passed him, but he was so intent on his prey that he didn't even seem to notice us. I have included him in the extras. I love the two long white feathers he sports on the back of his head…elegant and strictly decorative.

The lake was looking rather murky near the shore, but that seemed to be ideal conditions for fishing. Geese were bottoms up, a fisherman in a boat
caught a fish and I caught a picture of his friend taking a picture of him with his fish.Cormorants warmed their wings on a log as they kept an eye on the lake. The swans who usually follow the fishermen seemed to have business of their own elsewhere.

The dogs were all on their best behavior. Ozzie didn't eat any grass, although not for want of trying. Rudy trundled along as fast as his two inch long legs would carry him and Blake jumped on every bench, turned around, sat, turned around until he was too tired to chase after passing dogs. We all had a good time, then went off to our respective plans for the day….

For Dana and OilMan it was their gardens, for me it was making dinner for everybody and for Jim it was bringing over my new printer and hooking it up. We've all earned our evening wine and cheese.
