Life in Sunny Dubai

[Hello] Kiti!

Today has been a most productive day, and yet it has felt quite "light". That's because other people have done things... but there are definitely results!

We started by having an hour free down in the flat we furnished last year (our own). It gave us the chance to finally open the shrink-wrapped box (if you remember my check-in saga). I thought the batteries would appear, but they didn't. They were in Gs trolley bag - in hand luggage!!! No wonder they didn't eject us off the plane.

So, continuing with the new lithium battery rules when flying...
- they should be plugged, not unplugged
- you can have two loose, but anything more is not allowed
- you can carry them in hand luggage!! (Unplugged)

Go figure.

Having unpacked and regrouped, and enjoyed the spare hour, once again, things started to fall into place. First off, the IKEA assembly people arrived and started immediately. Then a very helpful handyman we met on the first day. He's not really a handyman, he has his own company, but he does things himself. He installed a shower cubicle in one of the flats; and just when it was getting a bit hectic, the white goods van pulled up!

They were the first to finish and leave... to install a hob and hood in Gs own flat... she now has the possibility to cook in here. YAY! (Not that there will be time to enjoy a meal before we leave!)

Everything went really well, until I came back to one of the flats having been into town to run some errands. A twin room had been completed and my heart really sank. The beds are way too big for the room! Yikes! Cyprus/Cypriots don't seem to like small beds! Very limited choice in standard single and NO 5ft double beds at all!

We managed to convince the assembly man (Torkel) to switch the rooms around, but even then they are too big. I really did feel like dying! Trying now to work out how to fix the problem. The owner has said she can live with it, but I feel awful.

Anyway, we left the complex around 8pm being able to take photographs of two apartments furnished with basic furniture/equipment!

The big thing for me though is - I've got a new hoover! In Cyprus! First time having a black one. It is going to revolutionise any cleaning I have to do here. Cut the time down by more than 50%!! And it did, as there was clearing up/cleaning to do in Gs flat after said new hob and hood were installed. It's looking good...

Nearly forgot! My blip is mainly of the Church located in the central square in the tiny village of Kiti (or Kitio, or Kitiou) which is on our way to/from the Tersefanou complex. We drove through it several times today! There wasn't time to get a proper picture of a tiny new roundabout they have made near the Police Station - complete with grass! It's too cute! :D
