Scanno

A classic view of Scanno - from the road. We journeyed today through Abruzzo, heading initially south to Sulmona, where we had coffee and saw some of their famous almond treats (see extra). Onwards through the Gole del Sagitarrio, where we enjoyed an amazingly turquoise lake (see extra) to Scanno. Just outside Scanno, we screeched to a halt and enjoyed a top class lunch in a place obviously mainly frequented by locals (the Trattoria pizzeria da Vittorio). Vittorio himself seemed to be in evidence - mainly now confined to collecting dishes from the tables.

Very good value for a substantial meal.

After a potter around Scanno, which definitely would repay a revisit, we headed to the motorway to make swifter progress north to our next destination, Ascoli Piceno. Finding our way into the old city to the hotel was an interesting exercise, but was accomplished without any raised voices in the car. And luckily the hotel has a little car park of its own, which is a relief.

Just about to head out and look for something to eat. And mostly a small glass of vino rosso.
