A Grand Day Out - Ruta Del Gollizno

A 06.20 start from home to catch the coach from El Ejido to the Granada Province.   The walks are organised bi-weekly during the autumn through Spring by the Local Authority Sports Department.

The route was: Moclin-Olivares-Rio Velillos-P.Golgante-Fuenta Corcuela-Cueva de Corcuela-Moclin.   See Map.

I have put the photos in the order of the walk, the first starting in Moclin and as you can see there was quite a bit of low cloud and we had some light drizzle for the first couple of hours.

The first Extra is one of the hightlights (besides the stunning views and countryside) crossing the wooden plank bridge.   It was not suspended very high but it did sway quite a bit!   At this point we had been descending for quite some time.

Next two Extras show the descent into the valley and, of course, the start of the ascent.   We went down 500 metres and then of course back up again.   When we were walking down we all turned and said - 'You realise we have to walk all the way back up'!   It was quite tricky and very steep in places and we did stop 'to look at the scenery and take photos'!

However, we managed and the final Extra shows the view as we were nearing the top, rows and rows of Olive trees in the distance.   That was where we had walked back up.   The weather did clear up and the sun started to shine towards the end of the walk.

We had a stop on the way there for the usual coffee and tostada and took a picnic lunch and of course when we arrived back in Moclin we had time to go and have a nice cold beer or two and tapas.   When we came out I remarked to Al that it was like being in Castleton with all the hikers finishing off at the Pub.

The same the World over.   I have to say they were a great bunch of people and all very welcoming and are looking forward to us trying the next walk.

Back home at 18.20 - a full 12 hour day!   We had a great time.
