Falkland Palace

Our room was at the back of the hotel and it was so quiet, that we slept far later than we would normally have done.  We had a quiet morning and drove over to Falkland to visit the Palace. it was one of Mary, Queen of Scots’ favourite places because it reminded her of the châteaux she lived in as a child. It was the country residence of the Stuart kings and queens who used to hunt deer and wild boar in the nearby Fife forests.  I first visited the Palace when I was a child, and somewhere I still have the bookmark that I bought then.  The second time I visited, just a couple of years ago, was a day of torrential rain, so we did the indoor bits, but not the gardens.  Today we did both, but feel that we need to visit again in the summer to see the gardens at their best.  We then had a lovely lunch in a café in the village, before heading down the road, as we were a little uncertain as to when BB would be returning home.

We had heard it would be 5pm-ish, so TT headed out to get him.  Just after he had left I got a text to say it would be nearer 6.15pm before they arrived back, and in the end it was a bit later than that.  BB had a great, if cold, time.  I expected to have to wash everything he had taken, but he had clearly not changed out of the clothes he went in, although he had added a few more layers.  He was tired and hungry, and happy to be back home.  After tea and a shower he did his reading and went to bed.  He was asleep almost immediately.  I am sure we will hear more tales of camp in the days to come.

Poor TT is still suffering, just when he thought his bad back was improving he seems to have had a relapse.

Yesterday a castle, today a palace.  We are getting our money’s worth from out Historic Scotland and NTS memberships!
