A view from Jeanneb

A walk in the woods.

A cloudy start to the day and a good drop in temperature but by the time we set out at 10.00 the sun was out again.

We headed over out favourite wee mad road to Lochinver for obligatory visits to the Highland Stoneware Pottery and THE pie shop to make purchases. We stopped enroute to walk in Culag Woods. This was a series of family trails through woodland to the shore. Constructions and activities dotted around including, after following the 'Are you brave enough?' path, some swings on the trees at White Shore. I had a swing. The best thing here though was a challenge to identify pebbles on the beach from various geological eras. I now know what Canisp spotted porphyry looks like and have a small example!
Continuing we came to this bridge. If you follow Chris's Face book you will see several self depracating pictures of him taken this holiday so why not another. A bit of fun in this fun place. ( Also, thought you might be getting fed up of blue sky and sea)

Emerging from the woods at the harbour in Lochinver we called in at Peets cafe which we had earmarked for a visit last year. We had an amazing open langoustine sandwich - see extra.
Then returned to the woods to complete out walk back to the car.
Leaving by the main road via Loch Assynt we found another trail created by the same people this time for 'All abilities access'. Paths accessible for wheel chairs and pushchairs alike with great views across small lochs to the mountains looking very crisp in the cooler, less hazy air today.

Finally we headed to Ullapool, sparkling in the evening sun - extra two -for fish and chips sitting on the harbour side. A tradition now after 7 annual visits.
Sadly it's our last day, perhaps as well with all this wonderful seafood! It's a sacrifice I would make to stay a bit longer! We've had a wonderful 12 days.
