If you can't beat them...

Wild Garlic.

Allium ursinum also known as Ransom.  We have quite a large patch of these under the Whitebeam and they are starting to form quite a feature in Clickychick's little woodland corner of the garden.

The weren't here when we moved in and we didn't plant them so we assume the floods have brought them from further up stream.  They do form good ground cover and have pretty flowers so we leave them alone.

I find one of their alternative "common" names rather interesting -Bear Leek.  MY grasp of Latin doesn't go much further than first year secondary schools well over 50 years ago but the scientific name suggests to me bear.  I can only assume that when UK had bears they were known to like Ransom Bear Leek.
