In Ruins

What should have been an excellent day has been very mixed.

Early this morning a neighbour's house caught fire. Thankfully no-one was harmed but the house - the other significant historic house on our road - is very badly damaged.

The neighbours have obviously rallied round and, luckily, we were able to let them have temporary accommodation and storage space.

In contrast, last Christmas M & C bought us a night away at a secret location while they 'held the fort' at the Dell House.  Some while back we'd chosen tonight as that night, and it transpired that a B&B in Clun on the Welsh borders was that location.  We set off, predictably, some hours later than planned but in good enough time to explore the village and what remains of its castle; to have a good meal and beers at the local pub, and to plan a long walk for the morning.

A welcome break, but obviously our thoughts were often with our neighbour and family.
