Arizona Dreamin’

Mexican Jay

Taken at Madera Canyon, these Mexican Jays were only two of about a dozen in the immediate area.  They are very unique birds with complex mating habits.  As their name suggests, they are generally found in Mexico, however, there is one  group which reaches into southeastern Arizona, spilling into far western New Mexico.  There is another  group found in the big bend area of Texas.  Oddly, these two groups don't seem to be linked to each other in Mexico.

Read more about these birds here.  See the extra, too.

It was a busy day.  Beth was here early in the morning to help me clean, Steve was here to spray for bugs, I went up to the Canyon for a couple of hours then mom and I went out to dinner for Mexican food.  I guess it was a south-of-the-border kind of day.
