A Day at the Seaside

Many times over the years have we visited Broughty Ferry where His Lordship lived in another life and where his continuing business interest demands occasional participation, but never on public transport until today.

What a revelation it was for me to walk instead of drive along the front and enjoy seeing for the first time the vast almost empty swathe of beach lying under a cloudless azure sky. In a car, the dunes prevent this view from the roadway.

We met his cousin , who was so recently bereaved, and had lunch with him at a table overlooking the beach, remembering that only 2 months ago there were four of us round the table. However it wasn't a morbid occasion as Derek regaled us with some fantastic holiday tales he has had in the past.  There was a lot of laughter despite the sadness. The cherry on the cake was a lift back to the station in a RollRoyce- before coming down to earth again with Scotrail.

The countryside was at its finest in the sun- lush green trees  and brown ploughed fields contrasting with acres of yellow rape as we sped through Fife, and all the while the sun shone. What more could two Senior Rail Card owners desire?
