DERELICT SUNDAY - ON THE RIGHT DAY!

After a good service at Church, we went out to look for some Sunday dereliction - I am aware that if I do Derelict Sunday on a Tuesday, as I did last week, it confuses certain people!

We have a favourite road that we travel, between Chiseldon and Liddington and there are lots of opportunities for Derelict Sunday blips along this road.  Often when we get to the end of this particular road, we stop the car and look up towards Liddington Hill, a favourite beauty spot for many in this area and it’s then that we say to each other “Should have brought a sandwich and drink.”

Well, this morning when Mr. HCB was up having his shower, I decided I would surprise him and quickly made some sandwiches, put in a couple of cakes and a drink and secreted the bag into the car and put a blanket over it.  After having taken the photograph for my Blip today, we drove a little further and pulled off the road into a gateway to admire the view.  Mr. HCB looked at me and we both said, in unison, “Should have brought a sandwich,”  and laughed.  I then uncovered the bag and hey presto, there was our picnic lunch.

We had to sit in the car to eat our lunch as it was raining -  our view was overlooking Swindon and despite the rain, it was still beautiful with the barley gently swaying in the field in front of us and birds singing and flying around the hedgerows albeit with a background of a rather angry-looking sky - the only “blot on the landscape” being all the rubbish strewn in the gateway - empty crisp packets, coke cans, petrol receipts and a CV, complete with someone’s name, mobile number and email address.  Why, oh why do people have to dump their rubbish and litter in the countryside?

“If the rain spoils our picnic,
     but saves a farmer's crop,
who are we to say it shouldn't rain?”
