Mono Monday 125

What makes you smile. I am on holidays so that makes me smile. This is a crane that assists getting cargo onto Norfolk Island. The island has no harbour and as the sea was rough today there would have been no cargo coming in today..
They have an airport but everything else comes ashore by this crane, that includes their everyday needs and even small buses. There are no wharfies so when a ship comes the locals all chip in to help.

Norfolk has an interesting history.

There was a Melanesian ( sorry that should read Polynesian) settlement from the 1200s, then a settlement to grow produce for the new community in Sydney in1788. That closed down and was followed by a penal settlement which lasted until the 1850s and after that the Picairn Island community were granted the island to settle on ( from Queen Victoria). They were descendants of the Mutiny on the Bounty sailors and Tahitians. Great place for a holiday.
