Bliptastic Blipbirthday Dragonfly Safari

I went on a 'Dragonfly Safari' today, at Wicken Fen. Mr H came too. Our guides were David and Nick and they were full of knowledge of all things dragonfly. There are about 40 species in the UK and about 20 at Wicken Fen. Today we saw 10 different kinds.

This is a male brown hawker, (actually not too sure about the male part). Apparently, they hardly ever perch up and rest so we were very lucky that this one stopped for long enough to be blipped. We did spot some others if any dragonfly buffs want to have a nosey.

Back at the education building Ruary showed us a dragonfly larva being fed a wormy, midgy thing, (midge larva) grisly!

It was a lovely couple of hours and an experience being with people who were so enthusiastic and knowledgeable about their subject. Wicken Fen has a Dragonfly Centre which was opened by Chris Packham and Nick the guide knows Chris quite well. I resisted quizzing him for Chris Packham anecdotes.

I guess the other big thing is this is my 365th blip. The year has gone by so quickly. Thanks so much to all of you who stop for a look or make comments. Thanks to all those who give hearts and stars, Thanks to Scotchlass who got me started on all this blip business. Thanks to all my regular blipmates, too, I appreciate all the kindness and encouragement and the bit of blip chat.

Finally thanks to the blipfoto team who make it all possible, keep up the most excellent work.
:)
