The Kelpies

The old one-two, double whammy today with visits to The Kelpies and the Falkirk Wheel. Both are impressive structures and both represent Scottish achievements and culture.

The Kelpies are mystical creatures from the sea but this installation also celebrates the part heavy horses played in Scotland's industrial and agricultural heritage.

The Wheel on the other hand is a 21st century celebration of the canal system in central Scotland. Originally a flight of locks joined the Union Canal with the Forth Clyde Canal. The locks fell into disrepair and canals abandoned in mid 20th. When canals were being regenerated in the latter part of the 20thC the locks at Falkirk were replaced by the phenomenal wheel to raise and lower boats between the two canals.

Quite enjoyed a scone at the Kelpies site, rather too short and crumbly though, but tasted well enough. Interest that the cafe closed at 4.30 when there were still plenty of visitors about.

Difficult to capture a different shot of The Kelpies which hasn't been done before.
