Time To Go Home

Today was the day for our return to the UK. Big storms were expected in Chicago so I wasn't too surprised when we got a message early in the morning that our flight out of Muskegon was cancelled. That sent me scrambling a bit. My sister and her husband were on confirmed tickets and so were rebooked, but I wasn't happy with what they'd been given. And my prospects as an airline employee standby weren't good! I spent the next 2-3 hours getting them rebooked on a better flight combination and I could only hope there would be just one seat left over for me!

We ended up flying out of Grand Rapids instead of Muskegon. Two of the flights to London from Chicago were delayed by several hours but amazingly our flight was only delayed an hour or so. There were plenty of seats open in economy so I was able to sit near my sister and brother in law. I love them dearly but I would have happily abandoned them to sit in Business or First but today was not the day!

Another phase of the storm came in just as we left the gate so we had to wait for it to pass before we took off. But once we were above the clouds the sky was beautiful. I was glad to finally be on our way. The stormy day of airline employee travel ended up being not so bad after all.
