Milwaukee County Historical Society Museum....

Jennie, the baby & I spent part of the day walking around downtown, & covered a lot of ground. We walked along the Milwaukee River, which runs right through the center of the city, walked by all our favorite buildings & later ate at the "Brat Stop"! (Best brats ever!!)  This picture I blipped today is one of my favorite buildings downtown. I love all the architectural elements on this building, which was built in the French Renaissance style, & it's as lovely inside as on the outside. It was originally a bank, & still houses 7 large vaults--the door frame alone of the vault at the North end of the building weighs a whopping 27 1/2 tons!  I put a few more pictures in my extras; the first is Milwaukee's City Hall----"From 1895 until 1899, the tallest inhabited structure in the world was Milwaukee’s City Hall, a building noted for its Flemish design and landmark qualities.  Towering more than 300 feet, it was a pioneering building in an era as elevators finally were becoming practical.  The building’s design has been heralded & it still stands as a trademark of Wisconsins' largest city". The second was taken in the "Cheese Mart" which carries every imaginable type of cheese ever made--I thought the bull was colorful and fun; and the last is one of the 4 bridges (that span the river in the downtown area) being raised to allow the boat to go down the river & out into Lake Michigan. We had so much fun, & I always hate when we have to head back home, but the crib was calling to the little one!!
