Island Queen

15.6C and mostly cloudy. Some bright spells but not sunny. Light rain from about 3pm. Light breeze varying from SW to WSW and Westerly.

Apothecary7's day off. We went to Glenbarr in time for "Art in the Hothouse " at 11am. Once Apothecary7 had gone inside with her art materials Maeve the Deerhound and I went to Tayinloan.

At Tayinloan, where the ferry goes to the island of Gigha, Maeve and I wandered along the beach. It felt quite warm but it wasn't sunny. We had a wander South along the beach for a short way so Maeve could have a paddle then I could come back in time to get some pictures of the ferry arriving. We went round to the other side of the pier for pictures of the ferry departing.

Then we went North along the beach to the wreck of Island Queen. Islay and Jura were visible although not clear. We just wandered along the beach and the time went by amazingly quickly again. I found a huge scallop shell (lower half) and 5 pieces of coloured pottery (I rarely find any on the beaches round here).

We went back to Glenbarr for 1.30pm. Apothecary7 and I had lunch. Maeve waited in the car.

On the way home we stopped at the farm stall at Bellochantuy for eggs and shortbread pigs then drove on to Westport beach where we had a walk. In the rain. The waves were good. Nice and green in what light there was, some breaking sharply with a good thump before running into the beach. One person was in the water surfing. There were three or four Gannets following the shoreline and occasionally diving.
