Marjorie's ramblings

A tour of the city

We had a coach tour of St Petersburg today, stopping near to famous sites and taking a few photos. We heard a lot about the history. We marvelled at the beautiful architecture.

The highlight of the day was undoubtedly a visit to the Faberge Museum. There are 13 original eggs here and my blip is one of them. In addition there are rooms with exquisite items in silver and enamels plus beautiful sculptures and plaster work. I must have spent more than half the time with my mouth dropped wide open in awe.

"No wonder there was a revolution" said Julie!

Our guide did not manage to include a lunch stop before we had to be at the Museum for our slot. He gave us a chocolate each and we visited a souvenir shop where coffee and vodkha was free......... Hmm.

After the museum a few people were grumbling, so he took us to a pie shop where we have a savoury portion followed by sweet. Very yummy and the atmosphere improved quickly.

What is more, the promised rain did not appear. There was a sharp shower while we were enjoying a drink in the roof top bar of our hotel (great views). Julie and I went to a local Italian for our evening meal. We had a few problems with the language difference, but eventually had an excellent meal.

Despite the crowds and the traffic I can thoroughly recommend St P's for a holiday.

PS The meercats were on a desk as we left security in Terminal 5 of Heathrow. No one appeared to be selling insurance so I do not know why they were there.......... Yet another of life's little mysteries!
