Marjorie's ramblings

Dostoevsky's grave

It was our last morning in St Petersburg.

We decided to visit the Alexander Nevsky monastery and the graves of many prominent Soviet artists, composers  and scientists.

There were crowds of people but very few in the graveyards. We found Dostoevsky's grave first and, since we stayed in the Hotel Dostoevsky, I thought it was appropriate to blip it.

The monastery church was crowded with worshippers of all ages. People definitely wear their Sunday best. (We felt just a bit under dressed!)

The choir sang beautifully. Those deep bass voices are amazing.

When we returned to the city centre we had a little time to part with our remaining roubles at the supermarket, then it was a mini bus ride to the airport.

Now we are at Heathrow. It feels like 9pm but is is only 7pm. Our flight north is at 2050 so I think we will be tired by the time we arrive home later.

It's been a great holiday. We experienced no negativity against the English and had a very happy time in St Petersburg.
