Lake Eyre

We drove from Coober Pedy to Kati-Thanda National Park, at Lake Eyre, and camped at Halligan Point. It was very tempting to walk out as far as we could out onto the lake, but as you'll be able to see from the footprints it was very easy to sink down into the mud! That's salt you can see, which apparently goes down a long long way. It's far saltier than the ocean and here, incidentally, it's 18 metres below sea level. A fascinating place to visit, with vast views. I'd love to come back when there's a lot of water in the lake, but apparently the last time that happened was in 2010 maybe - it doesn't happen very often.
