The Winslow Homer Studio, Prout's Neck, Maine

Dear Diary,

A hot day but a beautiful one nonetheless.  On Prout's Neck there was a wonderful breeze especially from the balcony of the studio which looked out on Casco Bay and the fabulous rocky shore which Maine is noted for.  Homer painted many of his masterpieces here.   The Portland Museum of Art, which owns many of his paintings, acquired it several years ago and after a three year renovation opened it on a limited basis to visitors.

Before we went on the tour we visited the Artist and Craftsman, a Portland art supply store we both adore and stocked up on some things.  We talked a lot about our years teaching art together and both agreed that we are quite happy to be retired now.

After the tour of the studio we had our annual dinner at DiMillo's restaurant on the water in Portland.  The lobster and steamed clams were delicious and the views of the boats coming and going in the harbor was just the perfect setting.  A truly memorable day!
