93 today!

One of the reasons we have my Mum-in-Law staying with us this week is that today is her 93rd birthday, and we wanted to help her to celebrate it.

After cards & presents had been dealt with, we took her out for a delicious lunch in a country pub near Hexham, then drove into Hexham itself for a look round the rather lovely Abbey. Then it was back to our house for a birthday tea including (as it should) sausage rolls, crisps, pizza and quiche.

We finished the meal with her birthday cake; 93 candles would probably have constituted a severe fire hazard, and she may not have had enough puff to blow them all out in one breath(!), so we made do with one candle and a "93" sign on the cake.

The left-hand photo was taken at lunchtime; the right-hand one speaks for itself! She's very proud of her new blouse which was one of our presents to her.

As you can see from her rather mischievous expression, she's growing old rather (dis)gracefully :-))

(This is the second time this year we've celebrated a 93rd birthday - see here!)
