A good crop

This is an old apple tree that grows in our front garden and sometimes has fruit and sometimes doesn't. This year it has a bumper crop - more than we have ever seen before. Sadly the apples are not very nice. We, and lots of other people, have tried eating them and no one likes them. Even when cooked they are not that brilliant. So, usually we let them fall and they feed the Blackbirds all winter. However, with such a large crop this year, we feel we have to do something with some of them. (There was a recipe for Applecake in the Guardian today - might try that. Or perhaps Gordon will make some chutney - when I'm out, as I hate even the smell of vinegar.)
