View from the plane

An uneventful flight last night to Johannesburg, although we left half an hour later than scheduled. This meant that on arriving at Johannesburg this morning we only had one and a half hours to reconnect on our flight to Durban. Given that passport control is extremely inefficient at the Johannesburg airport it was not enough time to make our flight. However, based on our experience from our previous trip we entered the queue for diplomats and people requiring assistance and no one batted an eyelid - so we got through passport control in about 20 minutes instead of what looked like could be up to 90 minutes. But...as we were about to board our connecting flight to Durban they called us back to say that our boarding passes had been cancelled as in their wisdom BA knew we could not make our connection due to the delay and so had checked us on to the next flight instead - which was nearly 4 hours later!!

So we had a long morning sitting at the Johannesburg airport. This was brightened by meeting up with an old friend who was also waiting for a connecting flight and we caught up on each other's news. Also made better by the good fortune that we were in an airport lounge that served the best food I have ever seen at any airport! It did mean we got to Durban very late and we hardly had any time with my mother this afternoon.

There was no time for photos today, other than this which was taken from the plane window as we started descending in to Durban. You can see the rolling green sugar cane fields, it is a very pleasant view as you arrive.
