Countermine

We were both up quite early today and decided to spend the day in St Andrews.  We parked by the West Sands and headed to the Cathedral, as BB wanted to go up St Rules Tower.  We stopped to watch the students, all dressed up, and queuing to take part in the raisin Monday festivities (a massive foam fight).  We explored the cathedral museum, before going up the tower.  We then headed down to the harbour and walked out along the harbour wall, but a horrid squally shower appeared out of nowhere and BB decided it was time for lunch, so we made a hasty retret to a well-known pizza restaurant (guess who chose that).

Next stop was WH Smith so he could spend some holiday money on football cards.  We then went to explore the castle – the mine and counter mine and the bottle dungeon in particular. I have memories of these from when I was young.  We then wandered round town doing a bit of shopping, which included ice cream, before a visit to Topping & Company book shop –a wonderful shop.

We headed back to the car, watched the waves crashing in, and headed home for a quiet evening.

Here is BB in the countermine at the castle.
