U-Bahn München: 81/100 Rotkreuzplatz

Munich Underground: 81/100 Rotkreuzplatz

Back in town and back to my strictly alphabetical Munich underground series: today's entry is Rotkreuzplatz underground station. Located underneath the square of the same name, the station was the north-western terminus of the dark green U1 line from its opening in May 1983 until 1998, when the U1 was extended further north to Westfriedhof.

The station has similar design features as its two eastern neighbours Maillingerstraße and Stiglmaierplatz, which were opened the same year. All in all, it's rather bland and colourless, especially when you look at the stations of the 1998 U1 extension at Gern or Westfriedhof. However, the pillar-less platform gives a agreeable feeling of wide space.

What is like most in this photo, though, is how the accelerating train on the left corresponds to the ad on the right.
