Potron-minet

A quaint French expression meaning "the crack of dawn". The etymology seems to be dubious -- minet is a cat, and the potron part either means "backside" as in "when it's light enough to see a cat's backside" or "feeding" as in "when a cat gets up to eat".

Anyway, S had minor surgery on his hand today, which meant we had to be up and out by 6 a.m. After delivering him to the hospital in Narbonne, I drove into town and joined the few benighted souls who were about for coffee and pain au raisin before driving home. It was so early even the market wasn't open.

The secretary phoned me at about 1:30 to say S was just waiting to be signed off by the surgeon, so I set off to pick him up. Unfortunately something went wrong with the system, and he and the guy sharing the room ended up spending the entire afternoon sitting around waiting. Only for the surgeon to see S at 5:15 and pack him off with a prescription for paracetamol at 5:17. What a waste of an afternoon.

Back home I flung a microwaved dinner on the table, gobbled it down, and went off to choir practice, getting home after 11. Zzzz -- knackered.
