Life's Little Moments

How to make a titmouse smile...

It's not all that hard, really.  Sunflower seeds will do it; as will peanuts or suet.  Even safflower seeds.  But if you want a really big smile, a dish of live meal worms on a cold December is guaranteed to bring squeals of delight, cheek-to-cheek smiles, and an extra sparkle to little button eyes.

The day started out sunny but  now it's that unique shade of gray that can only mean snow.  The forecast says only a dusting; to be followed by steadily declining temps over the next two days.  By Thursday night, we should see a low of 7 F (minus 14 C).  Not looking forward to that.

On the "good news" front, my cold is definitely waning.  Very happy that it didn't settle in for a longer visit.  Now I can put those infernal blister packs of cold tablets away!

If you want to see something cool, check out Cornell Lab's Nest Cam  in Machu Picchu where two tiny Green and White Hummingbird nestlings are being tended by their mother.  It's a live cam, so you'll only be able to view it during daylight hours, but they also have a couple of video clips at the bottom of the page.

Thanks for the love on my fuzzy little squirrel yesterday.  He and his gang were running all over the deck and patio this morning, wreaking havoc wherever they went.  Hard to resist, though.

PS:  And for the third time in as many weeks, I found a small pile of mourning dove feathers in the garden, a sure sign that some lucky hawk got a hot meal.
