Aerial View

Almost every time I fly into Las Vegas, I am treated to a fabulous view from the plane.  Today was no exception.  Once we came in below the cloud cover,  we had an amazing view of Lake Mead and the Hoover Dam. This is heavily cropped so you can get a glimpse of the Hoover Dam which can be seen just below the bridge and highway.   You can also see how low the water is in Lake Mead.  Due to long-term drought conditions, Lake Mead is at 37% of capacity, The last time it reached near capacity was 1983. An excellent illustration of this and the growth of Las Vegas in the last 30 years can be found HERE.

We have come to Las Vegas for our youngest son’s birthday and to help him with some things around his new house.  Since leaving home to go to college and law school, he has lived in dorms and apartments, so he is really quite clueless about being a homeowner. It all seems to be quite a mystery to him… and anyway, he is working very hard at his new job and has little time for these things so that’s what parents are for.

The last time I was here was August when it was 110 degrees.  Today was lovely, partly sunny and in the upper 50’s…a  super break from the bitter cold at home.
