Bird Day

It was an admin day so obviously I frittered a fair amount of time watching the garden birds instead. And what a day for it!

I put out dried meal worms for the robins and attracted first a magpie, not that surprisingly, but then a grey wagtail! (Not a garden bird and never seen here before but I had previously seen one at the river about half a mile away). She ran around the edge of the pond, ate a little meal worm, ran some more, ate a bit more... for most of the day. She also wagged her tail constantly making her exceedingly difficult to photograph.

There were two robins, sparring with each other, grabbing dropped morsels from the feeder and sometimes the mealworms.

Next came the green woodpecker who has destroyed the grass looking for grubs, but it's a small price to pay.

Back on the feeder Mr & Mrs Great Spotted Woodpecker took turns to peck at the peanuts as usual, then there were great tits, blue tits, long tailed tots, house sparrows, chaffinches, a nuthatch, a greenfinch, a wood pigeon and a male blackbird.

I'm sure I wasn't birdwatching for more than 5 minutes (or so!)

In other news, Lauren arrived home from a choir tour to Lake Como, literally buzzing with enthusiasm and happy to recount various tales.
