Can't help people who won't help themselves

This is not aimed at taking the piss out of Tim, it's me venting my frustration that despite trying to encourage him to exercise he simply is not willing to make the commitment or put the effort in. As the title says, 'you can't help people who are not willing to help themselves'.

The background:

Some time ago (2014), I offered to accompany him to the gym at inspire. He hopped from one piece of equipment to another spending little more than a couple of minutes on any one and always setting the machine to its lowest level of resistance - no pain no gain
I offered to take him again and he always had an excuse not to go. This carried on until I just gave up asking
Roll the clock forward to January 2016 and he's making noises about buying a bike. I offer to lend him my spare bike and to go for a ride one Sunday. He agrees, and because it's cold, he buys long joggers & gloves and for safety and comfort, a helmet and a gel saddle cover. Ride is called off due to snow so we go to the Active4less gym. It's a repeat of 2013.
Next day at badminton, he's asked about riding another time and states that he will wait till summer. He's then asked about going to the gym again and states that he needs to lose a bit of weight first and will probably go back to Inspire. FFS Tim, why should people try and help you when you won't help yourself?
