Arranging her books

Our apartment began life as a two bedroom apartment with bathroom, and separate laundry, and one large room for kitchen dining and lounge. the second bedroom was immediately commandeered by me as a study, the wardrobes turned into book shelving (mostly used for photo albums, negatives and all the boxes of extra photos, plus boxes of papers. In the main room was a pull down bed for guests; used a few times in the early years.

It wasn't long before we put a spare bed in the study; one which has a trundle bed under the main bed so two grandchildren can stay when that is pulled out. That allowed us to take away the fold down bed, which we had been informed was exquisitely uncomfortable to sleep on. The space so created was filled with a built in desk for S, with shelves above for books.

As is the way of desks and book shelves, every available square metre (even square centimetres!) was covered. This final (we hope) adjustment has been removal of the desk and the two side cupboards which had remained with removal of the bed, a new paint job on the walls, and some new shelves.

Now that she has finished and submitted her thesis, S is arranging her books on these shelves. Pausing for the night, with a glass of rose from Ti Point, she made a final adjustment to the placement of the new Faber and Faber series of Nature poems.
