An ordinary life....

Life is a minestrone...

Alan was moved to the HDU yesterday evening whilst I was there.  He was totally zonked by this time so didn't even know I'd been in :-(    Earlier in the day the medics couldn't decide if his symptoms were stemming from a surgical issue (in connection with his op) or a medical issue (chest or urine infection.)  In the end they decided it was a chest infection and prescribed broad spectrum antibiotics.

This morning I was up early to put the lights on and open the door to let the builders in.  It is so weird going to bed and getting up and only me in the house.  Kirsten arrived at 9am and I brought her up to speed with what's been happening.

We got to the hospital just before midday.  Alan was up and in his wheelchair but asleep.  He'd had some milk down his tummy peg and had drank two sports bottles of milk so it was nice to see him asleep and content.  He woke up not long after we arrived.  I just got a stoney look but Kirsten got a huge smile.  Still a charmer, even when he's feeling terrible :-)

Kirsten left and Ed arrived at 1.30.  David gave Alan more milk then, in a parallel universe, David offered to take me out for a slap up lunch.  In reality it was a polystyrene bowl of minestrone soup in the hospital's RVS cafe.  Thankfully it tasted better than it looks.

When we got back up to the ward poor Alan had been sick.  We think it might be one of the antibiotics that caused it.  He was fine after his milk this morning.  On a positive note, his oxygen sats are up so he's been off oxygen all afternoon, although he's still getting the nebuliser for 10 mins every few hours.

Christine arrived and we took the chance to come home to let David get a shower, some provisions and some dinner, before he heard back up to the hospital.

We are now having a text conversation as it has dawned on us that these bouts of nausea and sickness have been going on for a while.  We've considered many reasons (colitis, antibiotics, high temperature, infection, intolerance to his tummy milk etc etc) but can't quite seem to get to the bottom of it.

Also this one minute the medics saying he has a chest infection, then saying he doesn't and trying to decide if the route of his problems is a medical or surgical issue is worrying and tiresome in equal measure.  We just want to get to the bottom of things and get our boy well again.

We need House and his team!
