It's no use carping about it

A very enjoyable day with our friends Al and Liz in Waltham Abbey. A little different today as we went to a music concert organised by the Waltham Abbey U3A. The band was led by Steve Somers who has had an illustrious career in the music world for some 40 years playing with such well known people as Frank Ifield, Lonnie Donnegan, Don Everly, Lulu and Geln Campbell to mention just a few. He was also a member of the 60s and 70 folk group The Settlers. An extremely talented musician, a multi instrumentalist and a great voice adapting to a range of musical styles from country to skiffle, swing, folk and more. And a winner of New Faces in 1975.

A big crowd in too which made for an interesting atmosphere which improved as the night went on. We all went to listen to the music but evidently many of the audience had different motives. It was more like being at a wedding do where people sit at their tables talking while the disco plays in the corner. The band adapted to the circumstances very well, chnging their set to include more dancing tunes which brought people onto the floor and lessened the chat. I'm sure the band were used to this sort of thing over the years playing in pubs and clubs. So that's why it's no use carping about it. We enjoyed the muscial and the musicianship very much.

Earlier, in the afternoon, we visited the Garden Centre Strip, a road lined both sides with garden centres and their associated stores. At an aquatics store there was a huge tank full of large pouting fish which provided today's blip.
