Nicky and her Nikon

Blue skies at Bushy Park

We very much enjoyed Hedda Gabler at the National Theatre last night. Ruth Wilson is an exceptional actress and I enjoyed her interpretation of this difficult role - I read she took on the role never having seen the play and perhaps that is what allowed her to play it her way so confidently. The rest of the cast were very good too, although I noticed Kyle Soller's (he is Francis in Poldark) American accent kept slipping!

This morning I suggested popping in to Bushy Park with Gavin - Thomas had inter house hockey matches so no match for us parents to watch - it really is not cool for parents to go to house matches! Within minutes of arriving at Bushy Park I found myself getting angry. There were no deer at all, except for one young stag who was grazing near the main ponds. One stupid man was stroking it and getting hold of his antlers for his daughter - these are wild animals, not domestic pets! Then as he left two other men started feeding it a croissant - I told them they were not allowed to feed the deer but they were foreign and pretended not to know what I was saying. The deer then would not leave them alone as he wanted more food but honestly, a croissant...they are not even good for humans let alone deer.

We walked off and then I noticed a dog chasing something - it was a baby squirrel who ran up the nearest tree and the dog stayed at the base of the tree barking madly at the squirrel. Fair enough, dogs do that, but why was the dog not on a lead and where was its owner? She eventually came up and half heartedly called her dog away in between chatting to a friend, but by now the dog was frenzied and the squirrel was terrified - it tried to escape but sadly the dog chased it and killed it and by now the stupid owner was screaming at her dog but it was too late - she should have controlled her dog properly in the first place.

The blue skies were lovely, and you can see parts of the pond are still frozen. I may go back tomorrow to see where the deer are.

Nothing too surprising seems to have come out of the meeting between May and Trump yesterday. I saw the video clip of him holding her hand as they walked through the colonnade of the White house - what was that all about?
