Stag on a Crag

Basil and I went to Bradgate Park again this afternoon, this time parking at the Cropston Reservoir end. It's not such a long walk from there to the Deer Barn nor to see the deer.

It was mostly sunny today with good light for photography. We stopped at the Deer Barn cafe where I had a hot chocolate and weakened by also ordering a slice of gluten free lemon and ginger cake, which was delicious.

The red deer had moved closer to the Deer Barn, so we didn't have to walk as far as the ruins to see them, but they had their backs to us. Not photogenic. Fallow deer were dotted all over the place.

As we walked back to the car park, Basil had one of his 'mad runs,' when he runs around at a furious pace. Then he met Molly. Molly was rather bigger than him and shaggy. She wanted to play. Basil finally took the hint and they had a rough and tumble on the grass.

Meanwhile, I spotted this young fallow deer stag conveniently perched on one of the craggy outcrops. A white stag was pretending not to be there, since he was almost completely concealed by bracken.

By the time we approached the car park, Basil was dragging his feet. I can never tell if he is tired, or just doesn't want to leave the park.

Blind Critique at camera club tonight.
