Life through the lens...

The Pride and the Passion.

Meet Marta Aires Mateus-Bower the delightful Protugese lady who was the speaker at our wine tasting tonight.
A lady passionate about her country and their wines, who married an Englishman and is now living over here.

Back in Portugal her family produce the corks for wine bottles, so she has been brought up with wine, and knows many of the wine makers.

Six years ago she decided to start her own company, " Marta Vine".
She now imports wines from her home country and sells to small independent wine shops over here.

Her presentation was one of the most interesting we have ever had.
You could tell she loved her wines and country.

Two whites and four reds. All delicious. Many grape varieties we hadn't tasted before.
We learn't a lot about Portugal too.

At the end of our meal we finished with a something I hadn't even heard of;

Barack de Vilar Pink Port. ( didn't know there was a pink port)
Wow! What a stunner.
She said you could chill it and serve as an aperitif , even use it in Pimms, or mix it with a sparkling wine.

I think we may be buying a bottle of this, as well as one or two of the other wines we tasted.
All available from Latitude Wines in Leeds.

Had a lie in this morning!
