a lifetime burning

Valentine's Day in Amsterdam

After a leisurely breakfast, Cathy and I visited the Van Gogh museum.  Cathy had not been before, so we spent a very enjoyable morning marvelling at the advances that his painting took in just 5 short years.  Whatever illness affected Vincent (and its still not clear) the outpouring of art that it resulted in leaves one breathless.

We spotted a group of small children being taught about Van Gogh's work by two ladies who were dressed in '50s clothing and engaged in a series of song and dance routines.  I'm not sure of the relevance to the great painter's life but the kids loved it. :-)

We then spent much of the afternoon wandering around the Western Canal Zone.  We did pop over to the north of the old town for 4pm when the Eleventh Commandment opened, and I enjoyed a very nice Hoppus beer.  From there we walked back through the red light district (in day light) to broaden our education.  This evening has been spent eating traditional Dutch fare in a restaurant called "Pantry".  We are now feeling "as full as an egg" as the saying goes!

I've put up some extras:
1.  Jockey Shorts
2.  Not in front of the children - I spotted this Dutch take on teaching art to small children in the Van Gogh museum.
3.  The golden sow
