a lifetime burning

Meet on the bridge

Our third full day in Amsterdam, saw the weather warm up considerably.  It was still chilly and a bit misty when I took this shot this morning of the couple on a bridge, and the first of my extras, the chap cycling by the canal.  However the sun came out and by early afternoon hat scarf and gloves had been removed and sunglasses donned.

We've visited more museums and had our canal boat tour, both of which seem compulsory.  I made the mistake of getting trapped inside the boat and so had no real opportunities to take photos - what a school boy error that was!

On the plus side, we managed to find a rather nice brown cafe for a relaxing lunch, to a soundtrack of classic cool jazz.  This evening saw us wander into de Pjip and in a completely unplanned moment come across a really very nice French restaurant - Brasserie SenT.  We had vaguely thought that we might eat Indonesian after your various recommendations but we enjoyed ourselves so much at SenT that we have no regrets whatsoever (we may even go back tomorrow)!

The last of my extras is an entertaining wedding cake spotted on our journeying this evening.

Tomorrow sees us visit the Anne Frank House.  Having visited Auschwitz, I anticipate that this too will be more than a little sobering.  But it is important to remember these things, for these are events which are still very much within living memory.  If only the lessons did not need to be re-learned by each generation.
