Bat Frenzy

Another action packed day!
Our first visit was to the relatively small, but interesting, Mayan remains at Bakan. It was rather overcast, which we were pleased about to reduce the heat a bit.

Then onto the site of Calkamul. These are supposedly the best aand most impressive remains. However, the lack of a map and clear guidance meant getting around was very challenging, especially as it is difficult to get to being 60km off the main road into the jungle. We managed enough to get an understanding of the site and even got to the top of some monuments – jungle as far aas the eye could see with just the very top of a ruin poking through!

Our final call was at the bat cave. Here thousands, if not millions, of bats all leave their cave at dusk to go hunting. It was an amazing sight and almost impossible to photograph. I managed to randomly snap one as was taking aa short cut. Their exodus lasted for over an hour so there were a lot of bats!

Moving on tomorrow for our last stop down by the coast.
