Unpacking!

Thursday
Six weeks after leaving our house in France, our container arrived today. We have been living at the house for about four weeks, "camping out" with a few basics we had left in the house, our rented house in France being smaller than our house here. After several wet days in the last week, we were blessed with a mild sunny day today, which made life so much easier for everyone concerned. Although boxes were labeled, they were labeled in French, which didn't particularly help the American moving men (!), so one of us needed to be on duty at the door as they brought things in to tell them which room to take things to. Even then, it didn't always help, as the rooms in the two houses don't exactly correspond, so we still sometimes ended up with boxes in the wrong room, but the crew were very amenable, and happy to move things around if necessary. It was a tiring day, with a lot of running up and downstairs, which we haven't been used to for the last three and a half years of living in a bungalow/ranch in France! I guess they unloaded about two thirds of the stuff, before knocking off for the day. We were happy to take a break and go out to get something to eat, before coming back to do a bit more work, before calling it a day and having an early night.
