Sunday, Stratford & Shaldon

We decided to go down to the chalet at Shaldon, South Devon today for a few days, including Ann's birthday. Tom agreed to come with us, though he was working until 5:30 at the shop (Edinburgh Woollen Mill). So it was a late start onto the road, half the journey in the dark, luckily the traffic was not too bad and the weather not too inclement.

We went into town this afternoon for coffee and I took a few photos around the canal basin.

Today would have been the ninetieth birthday of Ann's dad, Tom. He died five years ago after spending some time in a residential home following a stroke.

I always have fond memories on Tom, he was a special grandfather to Tom and Emma, always willing to join in. He loved his sport, an avid Villa fan, and played a mean game of cricket and table tennis; he also had a snooker table in the front room. He was and is missed by the whole family.

The photo was taken in 1941 (the date is on the back) when Tom was 19. Obviously quite dapper in his day.
