Waking up in the Battlements

I survived the night sleeping on the Battlement floor of the Castle without meeting any ghosts. The sound of geese and nesting birds were the only noises I heard during the night.

The tranquility was wonderful and it felt much like staying in a country house rather than a Castle. Whilst the Castle itself dates back to the 12th Century, the bedrooms are located in the New Castle dated 1822 so whilst it looks medieval it's a bit of a ruse.

As I hosted my media guests at breakfast we talked about how the Society guests of the house party days must have loved their weekend retreats staying in the State Bedrooms but even Lady Baillie's servants must have woken refreshed back in the 1930s. Stepping back in time really is quite magical.
